“2012” and “San Andreas" Review

"2012" is a disaster film starring John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, and Thandiwe Newton. It follows various characters as they attempt to prepare for and survive a series of global disasters. The plot is thin, the characters are just as thinly-sketched, and yet the film forces us to spend far too long with these hollow characters as if they are interesting. Fortunately, the special effects manage to salvage this film, with grandiose scenes of disaster and destruction giving a sense of horror, wonder, and awe. The effects also hold up quite well for a film made in 2009. I would say that if you want to watch a mindless disaster film with good special effects, "2012" is a good choice. Just be prepared for throwaway characters and an overlong runtime.

“2012” 是一套災難電影，講述世界各地不同的人嘗試逃避一系列的世界性災難。這套電影的故事很薄弱，人物亦同樣地乏味。幸好，以一套2009年的電影來說，“2012” 的特技效果還算做得很好，令人一邊驚嘆一邊緊張。如果你想看一套能讓你關掉大腦看的災難電影，“2012”都是一個好的選擇。

"San Andreas" is a disaster film starring Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, and Alexandra Daddario. It follows a helicopter pilot as he attempts to rescue his daughter and ex-wife from the destruction caused by a series of devastating earthquakes. There isn't much to the story here, just mindless chaos. Johnson and Gugino play their parts well as parents concerned for their daughter as they are separately caught up in the earthquakes, but the story is essentially just repeating the destructive earthquakes over and over again as they cause more and more damage, and at the end of the day, while the lead performances are competent enough, we still don't know enough about the main characters to care too much about them in their struggle for survival. The effects are quite good though, so if you want a disaster film where you can turn your brain off for about 2 hours and enjoy senseless popcorn mayhem, then "San Andreas" might be just the right movie for you.

“San Andreas” 是一套災難電影，講述一個搜救直升機機師在加州發生地震時尋找前妻和女兒。故事沒有很多內涵，都是不停地發生地震，但主要演員的演出都不錯。可惜觀眾根本不太了解幾位主角，以致他們陷入險境的時候，我根本不為角色的死活緊張。電影的特技效果算是很好的， 所以如果你想看一套娛樂性高的電影，“San Andreas” 都算是一個好選擇。
