"In the Summers" Review
"In The Summers" is a drama film starring Rene Perez, Sasha Calle, and Lio Mehiel, as a man named Vicente and his two daughters Eva and Violeta. The film is slow-paced, surely, but it is never boring. Instead, it paints a very realistic portrait of a dysfunctional relationship between a father and his daughters through a series of vignettes, chronicling their time together during presumably the summer holidays of the daughters.
While there is a progression of story here, the plot itself takes a backseat to the characters, exploring the changing family dynamic through the years. There are scenes where not much is said, but through the placement of the characters and objects on screen, we are able to get a sense of the gradually widening gulf between Vicente and his daughters. There's a lot to say about this movie, as it's such a mood-focused piece that I think it's best experienced directly. All I'll say is that I highly recommend this film if you're looking for a slow-burn slice-of-life drama about a dysfunctional family.
